| Kaponomana places selected puppies on spay/neuter
contracts. This is to preserve the quality of this breed. Our focus is
to do our
best to allow only those canines with qualified soundness in mind and
body. We strive to do our best to open breeding rights to only
those owners who are committed to qualify themselves by learning all the intricacies
and responsibilities involved breeding, raising a litter and placing
each pup in qualified homes.
It is a known fact that dogs who are spayed/neutered prior to sexual
maturity almost totally eliminate their risk to prostrate issues (in the
males) and mammary tumor (in the females) when the dogs are in their
geriatric years. Once maturity has been reached, and even more so after
whelping puppies, risk to these conditions --even after surgery -- is
remarkably increased. Therefore spaying/neutering a dog, not intended
for breeding, by 8 months of age can have significant effect on lengthening
their lifespan.
In addition to the conditions already mentioned, Pyometra is
extremely common and can be fatal in a geriatric, intact female.
Kaponomana, upon reaching a decision to retire a dog from breeding,
immediately has that individual spayed or neutered.
