| Belgian Shepherds, any variety, are not a dog for
everyone. They require a consistent, clear, thoughtful, always
one-step-ahead leadership. They are very quiet about their manipulation,
and extremely responsive to learning when the teaching is clear,
consistent and fair. If not lead, they will lead you, with out
hesitation. With clear, consistent leadership, they are humorous, joyful
and so wonderfully versatile. They are extremely habit-forming.
Schipperkes, too, are dynamite in a little package. We purchased our
first Schipperke thinking they might be easier to handle for a young
teenager while they are learning to work with the Belgians. We were
fooled. Step up the exuberance, alertness, humor and directness of the
already intense Belgian and you have a Schipperke. They too will
definitely take many miles given an inch! Though they are little,
leadership and guidance is extremely important with this breed. They can
lend themselves to taking their watchful job very seriously. They
are a joy, when you are looking for pizzazz, humor and lots of love. |
